I am so honored to be featured in the inaugural issue of Rocky Mountain Bride’s Canadian Magazine! What a truly magical location Emerald Lake Lodge is, and we had so much fun working there. All that and getting to bring together all of these amazing vendors?

I wanted to do something that I haven’t done in a while; design a really elegant, classic tablescape. I used opulent details and a colour palette inspired by natural elements.

To achieve that natural yet luxe look, I chose glass chargers, gold flatware, gold-rimmed glassware, scroll place cards, menus calligraphed on cloth napkins, clear phoenix chairs, and lush florals. Champagne gummy candy favor boxes were a fun way to top off my tablescape.

Because who doesn’t want a prosecco toast following their ceremony?! We’ll of course arrange for sparkling cider to include your non-drinking guests.

For the place cards we chose calligraphy on a layer of vellum, with a wax seal of the north star on a compass. Hand torn paper was tied with a smokey blue raw silk ribbon.

Wedding Centerpiece

Raw edge bespoke cloth menus served also as cloth napkins. Elegance is in the details.

Gold flatware along with gold-rimmed glassware and plates take this tablescape to the next level of luxe. The finishing touch? Champagne gummy candy favors that would make any guest smile!

Charcuterie and hors d’oeuvres were catered by Emerald Lake Lodge and were delish of course.

Home Office Makeover

Today I’m really excited to share with you, my home office makeover.  Being able to work from home is a luxury that is not lost on me.  I feel quite lucky to avoid the commute and besides, “office hours” are tough to enforce when you’re a Wedding Planner, so it’s nice to have my files handy all the time.

When designing the space, I was going for a feminine and sophisticated vibe that would inspire productivity and creativity.  It needed to be a place where I can invite clients over too.  I’m beyond thrilled with how it has turned out, let’s take a look.

My certificate from Mount Royal University for Wedding and Event Planning displays my full name but I thought I’d share photos of these two at least.

I picked up this white shelving unit because it’s exactly what I was looking for. Binders for client files, processes and business docs are all at my finger tips, but I also need to be able to store ugly things like toner cartridges and office supplies out of sight.

The textured, fluffy dots on these curtains were calling my name, and I got them at Winners for a killer deal.

Pretty champagne gold day planners from previous years are nice to hold on to.   I’m pretty particular about the page format of my day planners, so that’s my priority.  If possible though, I try to find a champagne gold one to match my colour scheme.

Speaking of champagne gold, I’m saving a couple gold bottles of prosecco for a special occasion. For my bday recently, a good friend gave me that bottle of Gigglewater and “Let’s Get Fizzical”. It’s a prosecco cocktail recipe book I’m LIVING for these, obvi!… Oh, and a Wedding Planner’s bff; Emily Post.

This little guy is actually a piggy bank, but I don’t use him for that, he just made me smile.

Office Organization

I’ve got to have my dual monitors for all the floor plans and large spreadsheets that I work with. Yup, there’s my external hard-drive too. Planners are big on risk management- we always have a plan B, and a plan C.

For all the mood boards, floor plans and timelines that need printing, I’ve got to have a quality printer. This one’s got an app for easy wireless printing from my cell phone. If you’re interested, I reviewed it here.

Tips for Changing Your Name

Deciding if changing your name is even the right option for you? We’ve got you covered for making the decision and everything you need to know to go about it.

Your name is part of your identity, so it can be tough to decide whether or not to change it. It’s a personal choice, but there are so many factors that come in to play such as cultural, practical, traditional, convenience, emotional factors. It can be confusing and daunting, so we’re here to break it down for you.

Keeping Your Maiden Name

Many Brides choose to keep their maiden name, a name after all is part of one’s identity.  This option is especially popular for women who have established their career already under that name.  For example, if a Scientist has published under her maiden name there are ways to be properly credited with her married name, but some find it is simpler to just not change their name at all.

Hyphenating

I love this option personally but my name is already pretty long as it is. I have two middle names plus my Maiden Name wasn’t short and neither is my hubby’s last name. If this option seems right for you though, I think it’s the best of both worlds.

Changing Your Name

Some couples decide on this route to identify themselves to the world as one family unit. Some people are surprised to find out that taking on a Married Name is a different (and much easier) process than a regular name change. There are many factors, and as I said before it is a very personal decision that will differ for your own unique situation. If you have decided to take your spouse’s name, no matter the reason, here is a list to help make it easier.

The awards gala where the trophies were presented was fabulously opulent. It involved an extravagant 6-tier cake, jaw-dropping floral centerpieces, hanging crystal installations over guest tables.  Of course, these elicited audible gasps from the crowd during the room reveal.

In addition to passed hors d’oeuvres such as caviar, lobster, smoked salmon pancake, guests were served a winter salad then stuffed red pepper or salmon. To top off the meal, a dessert of White Chocolate Matcha Bavarois topped with raspberry and cardamom gelee and a little custom logo out of chocolate.

All of that was followed by 3 DJ’s hosting a silent dance party! Guests could switch between the 3 channels using their headphones throughout the night.

What will we talk about?

Our initial meeting is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other. You will get a peak at my portfolio, learn what the process looks like as a client, and which services would be the best fit for you. I’ll learn what you envision for your wedding as far as style, feel, if you have any concerns about your day, what your needs are, what you will invest in your wedding and how we can make your wedding AMAZING!

Is there a fee for the Initial Meeting?

Nope, this is a complimentary, no obligation, informal meeting.

Where do we meet?

Usually our Initial Meeting will take place at a central location such as a
coffee shop or a fro-yo joint.  Since our clients come from all over and have
busy schedules, this can also be done via video call!

Who should attend?

I would love to meet with both of you, to give you both the chance to get to
know me and vise- versa.

Can I ask your advice on budget, venue and vendor recommendations in this Initial Meeting?

All of that is the fun stuff we get to do once you’re a signed member of the
Birch & Bunny Weddings family!  This meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, for you to learn about my services, for me to learn about your wedding vision and for us to decide if we are a good fit for each other.  If you are interested in this advice BEFORE booking one of our packages though, please contact us for a consultation.

Will we be pressured into making a decision on the spot?

Absolutely not.  I encourage you to go home and sleep on it.  Afterwards, if you wish I will prepare a custom quote for you.  Your date will be temporarily held for 2 weeks following the meeting, we will follow up if we haven’t heard from you.  We would be honored to be a part of your wedding, but if you decide otherwise that’s okay too- we’d appreciate if you let us know so that we can release your wedding date for other couples.  We want to give you the opportunity to think about it, feel comfortable and be sure about your decision to move ahead!

Wedding Awards – Best Tablescape

Award Finalist

Eeep!! Guess what my lovelies, another award category was just announced. As you know, we’re already a finalist in the category of Best Wedding Over $25,000. Birch & Bunny Weddings has also been selected as a FINALIST for the category of BEST TABLESCAPE! Now I am on pins and needles waiting for the big awards ceremony on February 1, 2019.

When guests find their seat at a very special place-setting I love to watch them gasp at the little personal details. The table decor can be a focal point of the event. They can really set the tone using colour, texture, and by bringing in natural elements. All this makes tablescapes one of the most fun things to design, I’m thrilled at the prospect of a best tablescape award.

I would love to be able to fly out to attend the awards gala. The banquet will be held at the Albany Club in Toronto, ON where it will be held. It is sure to be a luxe and extravagant affair including an unmatched guest experience! Plus, the anticipation of hearing the winners announced is killin’ me!

Pantone Colour of 2019 – Living Coral

The colour trend guru’s at Pantone are predicting that the most popular colour of 2019 will be Living Coral.

It’s said to have a playful energy, with warmth and it’s quite a mellow and cheerful hue.

“Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

I used coral and shades of tangerine and peach in a tablescape I designed once, with cookies for place cards. Those were a fun detail!

It’s certainly a departure from 2018’s regal Ultra Violet.  Check out how much fun we had playing with that dramatic and vibrant colour!

(Side Note: I just realized that my #OOTD was a floral top, PLUS my jacket with floral embroidery- I wonder what was on my mind that day…)
