Newly Engaged? Here are your first wedding planning to do’s.
Getting caught up in the excitement of your Pinterest wedding board? That’s ok, take a week or two to just enjoy your new title of Fiancé first!
1) Tell your families!
In person if possible, why not host a simple brunch this weekend. If your families don’t live in the same city as you do, then pick up the phone or tell them via skype. Just make sure not to let them find out second-hand, via social media or text.
2) Determine Budget
Determine who is contributing to your wedding budget and how much. If your parents or his have made vague offers of “some help” it is important to ask for a more clear idea of exactly how much help that means.
3) Draft Guest List
Choosing venues that fit your guest number will be so much easier once you know what your criteria are. Even if the guest list is only a draft for now, it will be so much more useful than a randomly chosen range that “sounds about right” to you and your fiancé. Do yourselves a favor and take the time to jot down an honest to goodness list of names.
4) Consider a Consultant/ Coordinator
Don’t worry, you are still the one planning your wedding! Hiring a Certified Wedding Consultant & Coordinator can actually SAVE you money, and keep you and your fiancé on BUDGET! This is probably the first and last wedding you will plan, but your Certified Wedding Coordinator has already got experience and knows the ins and outs of the wedding industry in your city! She (or he) can make recommendations based on your unique needs.
Even if you don’t need them for the whole process, you can hire a Certified Wedding Consultant to prepare a Wedding Blueprint including budget, timeline and vendor suggestions within your budget and criteria, a Wedding Coordinator will alleviate stress.
5) Choose Ceremony Venue
The ceremony itself is the whole reason for the celebration, right? Once you have chosen your ceremony venue, the other decisions will be much easier to make because you will officially have your wedding date!
6) Think about your Attendants
Now that you have your budget, venue, date you have an idea how many bouquets you can afford. Chances are you already have put some thought into this one, just keep in mind that being in a wedding party can put a strain on relationships.
7) Begin Dress Shopping
Yes, already. Most Brides don’t just luck out by finding “the one” in your size right off the rack. It can take time not only to choose the right style and dress, but also to order it and have the alterations done. Save yourself the stress of not knowing if it will be finished/ come in time. Grab your mom and your newly appointed bridesmaids and make a fun day of it!
