Styled Inspiration Photo Shoot

Bride Twirl

I am so honored to be featured in the inaugural issue of Rocky Mountain Bride’s Canadian Magazine! What a truly magical location Emerald Lake Lodge is, and we had so much fun working there. All that and getting to bring together all of these amazing vendors?

I wanted to do something that I haven’t done in a while; design a really elegant, classic tablescape. I used opulent details and a colour palette inspired by natural elements.

To achieve that natural yet luxe look, I chose glass chargers, gold flatware, gold-rimmed glassware, scroll place cards, menus calligraphed on cloth napkins, clear phoenix chairs, and lush florals. Champagne gummy candy favor boxes were a fun way to top off my tablescape.

Wax Seal

For the place cards we chose calligraphy on a layer of vellum, with a wax seal of the north star on a compass. Hand torn paper was tied with a smokey blue raw silk ribbon.

Raw edge bespoke cloth menus served also as cloth napkins. Elegance is in the details.

Gold flatware along with gold-rimmed glassware and plates take this tablescape to the next level of luxe. The finishing touch? Champagne gummy candy favors that would make any guest smile!

Wedding Charcuterie

Charcuterie and hors d’oeuvres were catered by Emerald Lake Lodge and were delish of course.

A 4 tier wedding cake with edible gold, textured buttercream and creative florals tied the luxe style with elements of nature.

Collecting gemstones was a hobby of mine as a child, so when Geode Wedding Cakes came on the scene I just knew I had to design a styled shoot around geodes and gemstones.  Loads of florals accented everything from the harvest table, to chairs, to candelabras and everything in between.
The Acreage Weddings Church Calgary Wedding Venue

Our hidden gem of a venue!  This little old church had been built as a movie set, but had become run-down and in need of a lot of love when Faith and her hubby purchased it.  They put a lot of work into refinishing it, and adding extra windows to let in more sunlight.  For the perfect finishing touch, a blinged out chandelier, and The Acreage Weddings church was finally ready for it’s debut as a gorgeous, unique wedding venue.

Although the windy weather that day prevented us from using the majestic Rocky Mountains as backdrop, we had such a stunning venue to work with.  Get a load of this…

In the heart of Calgary’s East Village, overlooking the Bow River is the century old Simmons Building that is home to Charbar.  We knew this 102 year old building with its exposed brick, wooden beams would be the perfect location for this styled inspiration shoot.  I chose a love poem by E.E. Cummings because it evokes the really romantic feeling that I was going for with my design for the shoot.

For a more bohemian bridal look I selected this crop by Theia with delicate scalloped eyelash lace and long sleeves. Pearl & Dot Bridal Boutique and we decided to pair that with a flowy bridal skirt by Kathryn Bass Bridal.  Blissful Paper Co. created the beautiful calligraphy paper banner for our love poem.

I had a style in mind for the table number, chair signs, place card names so I reached out to Custom Laser Works who even created a fun guest book alternative. (see down below). Bella Linens contributed lovely romantic lace on blush table linens as well as the draping and luxe candelabras!

I just love this little wooden bar cart from Orange Trunk Vintage, which we styled as a desert and drinks table with their other lovely vintage pieces.

Fancy some sweet treats by Modern Bake YYC? Oh how yummy these were!

Bringing together this incredible team of vendors to collaborate on this inspiration shoot was so much fun. Thank you so much for all of your effort and contributions!

I set out to inspire Birch & Bunny brides and grooms who are dreaming up their own wedding themes.  I wanted this inspiration shoot to be rich and elegant, but to marry that sophistication with the natural beauty of the outdoors, hence a woodland glam theme.  To accomplish this, I choose a colour pallet of deep Marsala, bold berry hues, and accents of gold and bling.Wedding Decor CalgaryWhen Grace Kerr of Photographs by Grace came on board, I was thrilled by her enthusiasm for the concept! We had such a mild winter, but it was so windy that day (a severe wind warning was issued) that we almost blew away!Wedding Decor TableBeautiful flower garland, bouquet and floral crown were created by Occasional Bloom, using rich deep colours and  lush florals juxtaposed with curly willow branches for texture.Bride Flower CrownCake artist Handmade Cake Company crafted a semi-naked red velvet cake using all natural and preservative free ingredients.  It was garnished with persimmons, fresh berries, pomegranate seeds, as well as a sumptuous pavlova, and raspberry cream filled meringues.Naked Cake Woodland Glam Wedding

Meet the Couple

Sara + Steve are just so in love, you can see it in how they interact and how they look at one another.

The two lovebirds had met through a mutual friend a few years prior to dating.  After meeting for coffee one day though, Sara and Steve really felt a connection.  Not wanting the coffee date to end, the two talked for hours and hours.  It was obvious that sparks were flying and soon began spending more and more time together and fell madly in love!

Romantic proposal

Their Proposal

So utterly romantic!
This past summer, in Venice, Italy – one of the most romantic cities on the planet… surrounded by iconic canals and beautiful architecture, this is where Steve declared his love and popped the question to Sara.

While planning the colour pallet, I felt inspired by Rose Quartz, one of the two Pantone Colours of the Year for 2016.  I chose Navy to balance out the soft femininity of the Rose Quartz/ Blush.Bridal Bouquet with succuletsCarla of Carla Lily Flowers put together the gorgeous textural posy for our Bride-to-be turned model, Sara.
