Bridal Expo

Calgary Bridal Expo

The Details: Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 10am – 5pm
Booth #45 in the Artisan Area, BMO Center, Stampede Park, Halls D,E

Bridal Expo is Alberta’s biggest fall bridal show hosting over 150 of Calgary’s leading wedding specialists.  Birch & Bunny Weddings and Events has some tips to help you navigate and make the most of your visit to Bridal Expo 2016.

Plan Which Vendors to Meet
Take a look through the online Vendor Guide to see which vendors seem like they would be a good fit for you and your fiance.  Keep an open mind at the Expo, but it is helpful to have a plan for where the vendors are whom you’d like to meet.

Bring a Friend or Two
A friend can help you carry your swag and enter contests, while you connect with vendors and make appointments. You may be tempted to bring your whole squad but choosing just one or two means you won’t be overwhelmed by all of their opinions. Maybe your Fiancé would like the chance to connect with vendors too?

Avoid the Crowds, Start in the Artisan Area!
Boutique vendors such as Birch & Bunny Weddings and Events will be located in the Artisan Area near the food trucks and fashion show.  Skip the crowds by making your way to the Artisan Area while everyone else is crowded around the booths by the entrance!

Comfy Shoes
You will need about 2 or 3 hours at the Expo, and it can be hard on your tootsies.

Enter Draws
Print up labels with your name, fiancé’s name, wedding date and email address on them to save time when entering to win prizes.  That way, your helper can put your sticker on the entry form while you connect with the wedding specialists!  Labels will also be available for sale at the entrance.  Birch & Bunny Weddings and Events will be giving away two prize packs each including a GC for $200 off Planning and Coordination services.  Good luck!

Refuel
There will be some great options at the Food Trucks in the Artisan Area, so grab a bite and you’ll be ready to venture back out for more inspiration.

Post-Expo
Be sure to get in touch with the vendors who you connected with before your wedding date gets booked.  Many of the vendors will be reaching out to you as well.  Set up appointments with the vendors you connected with to discuss their potential role in your wedding.

Hope to see you there!

Gold & Marsala Woodland Glam Winter Wedding – Inspiration

I set out to inspire Birch & Bunny brides and grooms who are dreaming up their own wedding themes.  I wanted this inspiration shoot to be rich and elegant, but to marry that sophistication with the natural beauty of the outdoors, hence a woodland glam theme.  To accomplish this, I choose a colour pallet of deep Marsala, bold berry hues, and accents of gold and bling.

Wedding Decor Calgary

When Grace Kerr of Photographs by Grace came on board, I was thrilled by her enthusiasm for the concept! We had such a mild winter, but it was so windy that day (a severe wind warning was issued) that we almost blew away!

Beautiful flower garland, bouquet and floral crown were created by Occasional Bloom, using rich deep colours and  lush florals juxtaposed with curly willow branches for texture.

Bride Flower Crown

Cake artist Handmade Cake Company crafted a semi-naked red velvet cake using all natural and preservative free ingredients.  It was garnished with persimmons, fresh berries, pomegranate seeds, as well as a sumptuous pavlova, and raspberry cream filled meringues.

Rose Quartz + Serenity, Love it or Leave it?

Rose Quartz + Serenity: Pantone Colours of 2016

Every year, fashion designers and event planners alike eagerly await a certain exciting announcement.  The trend predictors at Pantone announce their predictions for the Top 10 Colours of the year as well as naming a single much anticipated colour of the year.  It is really a self-fulfilling prophesy though, because industry professionals accept this prediction as a fun challenge, and come up with new and exciting ways to showcase this colour.  Hence the trend prediction often becomes a trend setter.

For the first time ever, Pantone’s colour of the year trend prediction is actually a combination of two colours; Rose Quartz + Serenity.  A move that they say “Challenges traditional perceptions of colour association” transcends cultural and gender norms and is calming, all about balance.    The others listed in Pantone’s Top 10 Colours of 2016 are Iced Coffee, Fiesta, Green Flash, Limpet Shell, Snorkel Blue, Buttercup, Peach Echo and (my fave of the bunch) Lilac Grey.

Marsala Pantone Color of the Year 2015

We’re still all about 2015’s colour Marsala, and just between you and me, we may have found an excuse to play around with this gorgeous wine coloured hue, so stay tuned for an update on that!

What do you think, Love it? Or leave it?  Tweet @birchandbunny your opinion!   I decided to create a Pinterest board dedicated to the tranquil colour duo.

Do you plan to incorporate Rose Quartz + Serenity into your 2016 or 2017 wedding theme?  We would love to see how!  Check out our Services to see how Birch & Bunny can help with your wedding planning needs.

2016 Wedding Trend Forecast

Don’t be afraid to set your own trends, and add your own personal spin on them.  Here are a few to watch for this year!

1)  Loose, Unstructured Florals
In 2015 we saw a move toward more organic looking, natural floral arrangements that give the impression of a bride just having gathered her bouquet from her garden on her way to the ceremony.  No more perfectly round bouquets, the modern bride prefers a less fussy look.  My guess is that we will continue to see more of this more free flowing look in 2016.

2) Wedding Cake Alternatives
Cupcakes and cake pops have been paving the way in recent years for unlimited options for wedding cake alternatives.  Consider a delightful selection of pies, even individual hand-pies, a display of old fashioned donuts, cookie + ice cream sandwiches, meringue pavlova, ice cream sundae bar.

3) Suspended Centrepieces and Chandelier Cakes
Hello WOW Factor!  These gravity defying centerpieces and hanging cakes are such a memorable way to add drama to your reception!

4) Food Stations
Expected to be a big hit again this year, couples are breaking out with fun, new ideas for food stations.  Some are opting to go with a formal sit-down dinner with stations for cocktail hour, desert and late night snack.  Others still are skipping the sit-down dinner entirely and instead letting guests mingle between exciting action-stations where each item is prepared before guests’ eyes!  Just make sure to have plenty of casual seating and soft seating available for those who wish to gather at a table between stations.

5) Bold Dresses
This year we are going to see many Brides opt for bold statements with their gown.  Plunging necklines, or low backs, short dresses with long sleeves, asymmetric necklines, two-piece with a crop-top, and our very favorite dress trend this year: illusion necklines with lace or floral appliques.  So feminine and pretty!

6) Metallics
An elegant pop of sparkle, metallics are being incorporated in everything from foil stamped invitations to jewelry to decor elements and even dresses!  Silver, Gold, Bronze, are trending, but Rose Gold and Copper are already quickly becoming the most requested metallics.

What do you think of our predictions?  Which other trends do you think will be hot this year?
