As the reality of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis sets in, couples and families are grappling with the uncertainty of the pandemic and its impact on their wedding plans.
With medical professionals and governing bodies recommending social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, couples set to marry over the coming weeks are left with the tough decision to postpone their weddings. In an effort slow the spread, keep guests, especially the elderly, safe large gatherings are being discouraged or even banned. Couples and Wedding Planners have been hard at work coming up with contingency plans tailored to their needs, venues and specific situations, hoping to keep their vendor teams in tact.
Feelings of Grief are OK
First let me begin by saying that I’m truly sorry this is happening to you. It is ok to grieve the loss of your existing wedding plans. It is heartbreaking. You and your Planner and vendor team have excitedly worked hard on your wedding plans. If your wedding date is approaching over the next few weeks during the ban on gatherings, you may be feeling uncertain, heartbroken, powerless even. That’s ok, your feelings are real and they are valid.
Please know that although we don’t know when, this too shall pass, as they say. These words of wisdom often been used by my mom, are a comfort to me, as she would share her own stories. Stories of times when she went through anything from rough patches to personal tragedy… and came out stronger.
When And How Should You Postpone Your Wedding?
For those whose wedding dates are not until summer or fall, there is still plenty of time. This situation is still unfolding, and things can change a lot in the coming weeks. Your patience and understanding for those who were set to marry this month is appreciated.
As you navigate the difficult decisions and the logistical impact of reconfiguring plans, your vendor team is here for you. We will have to work together to get through this.
For couples with a wedding date over the next few weeks, Officials have asked that gatherings be postponed. Keep guests updated via email/ phone and on your wedding website if you have one. WHO, and Medical professionals will know more in a couple of weeks, which will allow you to make an informed decision. Once you have secured your new date, you can mail new invitations out. If the new date is not so far off, you can work with your Stationer to create a digital invitation to get the word out quickly.
Refer to your contracts, review them with your Lawyer, discuss them with your Wedding Planner. If you have any payments due, but you’re feeling uncertain, contact your vendor right away. Discuss with your venue and vendors whether or not they are able to move due dates or split your payments. We are all in this together, and your vendor team will be as accommodating as they can be.
BREATH. Spread kindness like confetti. Lean on your support system and vendor team. Be as optimistic and patient as you can be. Trust and believe that we WILL get through this trying time, we’re all in this together. Stronger than ever.
