Did you hear? Pantone has just announced the prediction for colour of the year for 2020 and it’s Classic Blue. A timeless hue that is… well, classic!

“Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director. “Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky. Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking, challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.” That sounds like a great choice for a wedding colour, doesn’t it?

Wedding Stationery

There are so many ways you could use Classic Blue, into your wedding colours. Let’s start with invitations; ink, paper or ribbon and wax seals are all easy ways to add a pop of blue.

Attire

One of the most common ways to feature a colour is to use it for attire. Imagine blue heels peaking out from under your dress as you walk down the aisle, or boogie on the dance floor! How about blue suits, or Bridesmaids/ Groomswomen’s dresses, Flower Girls’ dresses? We really loved this blue suit with blue floral patterned shirt.

Cake, Sweets

Talk to your baker about colourful French macarons, a blue painted cake and cookies (edible paint), or a blue icing drip.

Tablescape

If full on blue tablecloths is more dramatic than you’d like, try a more subtle approach with table runners and napkins. A contrasting menu or blue tinted glassware also have a big impact on your tablescape.

Ambiance

Coloured uplighting will instantly transform the room, with minimal effort and cost. Add small details such as a hint of blue in your signature drink, and throw pillows on some soft seating to carry the look throughout. It’s all about the details, as they say, my lovelies!

Wedding Flowers

While florals are usually an impactful place to add colour, with blue this is super tricky. It’s not a colour that occurs naturally in flowers very often. So, with very few blue flowers to start with, throw in limitations of seasonal blooming and it gets tricky.

We recommend using blooms in other colours from your palette, which just coordinate with the blue, or maybe add a blue ribbon on your bouquet. If you’re dead set on adding touches of blue to your bouquet though, ask your Florist about thistle, certain succulents or silver brunia have a slight blue tinge to them.

After a couple of really bold choices from Pantone over the past few years, we can understand why they might believe a colour like Classic Blue will gain popularity next. It’s certainly not as bold or bright as last year’s bold Living Coral, or the previous bright hue of Ultra Violet. (Not that a challenge ever stopped us!)

We want to know what your thoughts are. Do you love it or was this choice for colour of the year too safe? Will you be incorporating Classic Blue into your wedding colour palette? Let us know in the comments below.

The colour trend guru’s at Pantone are predicting that the most popular colour of 2019 will be Living Coral.

Pantone Colour Trends

It’s said to have a playful energy, with warmth and it’s quite a mellow and cheerful hue.

“Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

Although this tablescape photo doesn’t really reflect how subtle the blue was, it’s still an interesting example so I’m sharing it. I used coral and shades of tangerine and peach with cookies for place cards. Those were a fun detail!

It’s certainly a departure from 2018’s regal Ultra Violet Pantone Colour.  Check out how much fun we had playing with that dramatic and vibrant colour!

What are your thoughts?  We want to hear!  How would you use this colour in your own wedding?

The trend predictors at Pantone have announced their prediction for the 2018 colour of the year and it is…
(drum roll please)
Pantone Ultra Violet

… Ultra Violet!  Pantone is calling it a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade” that “communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”  A very bold and vibrant choice after what was known as nature’s neutral; 2017’s Greenery.

Ahead of the trend, Cheryl + Travis used shades of purple in their fall 2017 wedding.

Collecting gemstones was a hobby of mine as a child, so when Geode Wedding Cakes came on the scene I just knew I had to design a styled shoot around geodes and gemstones.  Loads of florals accented everything from the harvest table, to chairs, to candelabras and everything in between.
The Acreage Weddings Church Calgary Wedding Venue

Our hidden gem of a venue!  This little old church had been built as a movie set, but had become run-down and in need of a lot of love when Faith and her hubby purchased it.  They put a lot of work into refinishing it, and adding extra windows to let in more sunlight.  For the perfect finishing touch, a blinged out chandelier, and The Acreage Weddings church was finally ready for it’s debut as a gorgeous, unique wedding venue.

In an intimate twilight ceremony in the heart of Banff National Park, Vanessa and PJ renewed their vows.  The two expressed their ongoing love for one another after over a decade of marriage. They did so, in the presence of their two beautiful children, their parents and a few close friends.

Intimate Ceremony

Vanessa and PJ returned from their honeymoon to discover that sadly their wedding photographer had shut down and left town with the film.  Their lone framed photo of their wedding day was snapped by a friend. After their Banff Vow Renewal ceremony, Vanessa and PJ have made some new memories. This time, the lovely Jennie Guenard has captured these beautiful images for them.

The inspiration behind everything from Vanessa’s stunning Elizabeth Dye gown to the watercolour vow renewal booklets and even their cake was inspired by the pretty colours in their mountain backdrop and the way it looked like a watercolour painting at twilight.  I hope you all love these photos as much as we do!

Tamara of Bake My Day created this gorgeous mountain cutting cake. The mountains match Vanessa + PJ’s blue and grey colour scheme and watercolour theme. Yes, she made that beautiful flower too and it’s edible!

Isn’t Vanessa breathtaking?  (and how about that gown?!)  Vanessa wore the Elizabeth Dye Halo Gown in glacier and ivory.

What an incredible honor it was to be a part of planning your special day Vanessa and PJ. Your Vow Renewal ceremony was so beautiful, and your family is lovely!  We’re so happy that you now have some photographs to hang on your walls.  Yours is a love for the ages!

Greenery is fresh and organic, bright and revitalizing.  It’s been announced by Pantone as their colour trend prediction for 2017.  Symbolic of new beginnings. That sounds like the perfect addition to add to your wedding colour palette!

Greenery Wedding

Greenery bursts forth in 2017 satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize. Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature.”  said Executive Director of Pantone, Leatrice Eiseman.  It’s a bold departure from last year’s combination Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Last summer a few of our couples incorporated a lot of actual greenery into their weddings. One couple in particular (H+B) made it a focal colour, though. It feels like we say that each time the Pantone colour is announced. It becomes clear each year that Birch & Bunny couples are trend-setters! (Yes, you!)

I set out to inspire Birch & Bunny brides and grooms who are dreaming up their own wedding themes.  I wanted this inspiration shoot to be rich and elegant, but to marry that sophistication with the natural beauty of the outdoors, hence a woodland glam theme.  To accomplish this, I choose a colour pallet of deep Marsala, bold berry hues, and accents of gold and bling.Wedding Decor CalgaryWhen Grace Kerr of Photographs by Grace came on board, I was thrilled by her enthusiasm for the concept! Meet the Couple

Sara + Steve are just so in love, you can see it in how they interact and how they look at one another.

The two lovebirds had met through a mutual friend a few years prior to dating.  After meeting for coffee one day though, Sara and Steve really felt a connection.  Not wanting the coffee date to end, the two talked for hours and hours.  It was obvious that sparks were flying and soon began spending more and more time together and fell madly in love!

Romantic proposal

Their Proposal

So utterly romantic!
This past summer, in Venice, Italy – one of the most romantic cities on the planet… surrounded by iconic canals and beautiful architecture, this is where Steve declared his love and popped the question to Sara.

While planning the colour pallet, I felt inspired by Rose Quartz, one of the two Pantone Colours of the Year for 2016.  I chose Navy to balance out the soft femininity of the Rose Quartz/ Blush.Bridal Bouquet with succuletsCarla of Carla Lily Flowers put together the gorgeous textural posy for our Bride-to-be turned model, Sara. Update: Check out the work we did with each of these colours! Serenity Blue Watercolour-Real Vow Renewal and Rose Quartz + Navy-Styled Shoot

Rose Quartz Serenity Pantone Colours

Every year, fashion designers and event planners alike eagerly await a certain exciting announcement.  The trend predictors at Pantone announce their predictions for the Top 10 Colours of the year as well as naming a single much anticipated colour of the year.  It is really a self-fulfilling prophesy though, because industry professionals accept this prediction as a fun challenge, and come up with new and exciting ways to showcase this colour.  Hence the trend prediction often becomes a trend setter.

For the first time ever, Pantone’s colour of the year trend prediction is actually a combination of two colours; Rose Quartz + Serenity.  A move that they say “Challenges traditional perceptions of colour association” transcends cultural and gender norms and is calming, all about balance.    The others listed in Pantone’s Top 10 Colours of 2016 are Iced Coffee, Fiesta, Green Flash, Limpet Shell, Snorkel Blue, Buttercup, Peach Echo and (my fave of the bunch) Lilac Grey.

We’re still all about 2015’s colour Marsala, and just between you and me, we may have found an excuse to play around with this gorgeous wine coloured hue, so stay tuned for an update on that!  (UPDATE: click link ^ to see the photos!)

What do you think about the Rose Quartz and Serenity pairing; Love it? Or leave it?  I decided to create a Pinterest board dedicated to the tranquil colour duo.

Do you plan to incorporate Rose Quartz + Serenity into your 2016 or 2017 wedding theme?  We would love to see how!

Marsala Macarons

Marsala has been announced as Pantone’s prediction for the colour of the year for 2015.  Compared to last year’s color Radiant Orchid, this year’s colour is a much more rich hue.  It’s deeper and pairs well with metallics.  **Just between us darling, that’s a little clue as to a certain wedding inspiration styled shoot that I may have in the works!
Marsala Pantone Color of the Year 2015Bride's Manicure
“This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty.” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.

Will you be incorporating this rich wine hue into your wedding colour pallet?  We’d love to hear from you!
